For the Unit 2 London Project, we were given Muswell Hill (N10) to research and work on in order to set up a treasure hunt. Muswell Hill is located in the north of London (zone 3) and is accessible by tube (northern line/ highgate tube station). This affluent little community has much to offer, through its tradition and history. The landscape is diverse with a good part of the area dominated by Highgate Wood and Alexandra Park, as well as residentel areas. Obvious characteristics of the area are the Alexandra Palace and the fantastic panorama onto London. Knowing the area to study in, the next few steps were getting to know each group member and from that, forming some sort group momentum where organisation and punctuality would be key. However this proved harder than first expected due to lack of involvement. To counter these problems we organised group outings to the site where it was compulsary to attend. Having all visited Muswell Hill for the first time as a group it was clear that there was much to offer for a treasure hunt. Within our game our main two aims were to emphasise the area's diversity (the woods, church, bookshop, cinema, alexandra palace etc) and to interact with the community. By doing so the players would have to work as a team and would be constantly interacting with the community. These were key if our game was to be fulfill the requirements. We also provide telephone numbers in case of any confusion during the game. Alexandra Palace was the part of Muswell Hill I was assigned to research and use as a resource. The site offers a spectaculor view onto the capital (day and night) and is surrounded by its park. It is used nowadays for recreational purposes such as exhibitions , venues etc. Already from its impressive posture the group decided to use it as the finale. It would involve the players enjoying the end of the hunt, sitting, relaxing, smiling within the park grounds overlooking London. My personal involvment on the Group Project, I believe was valuable and we were cohirant as a team when it came to generating ideas. We were fairly organised with our communications between one another, however participation and punctuality was not always there. This was the case several times with personal research and appointed tasks. However we managed as a team to adapt very well in short amounts of time either for meetings or game plan organisation; such as having to miss out several clues due to shopkeeper closures and simplifying instructions on clues. Reflecting on the Project, I would reconsider simplifying several checkpoints and possibly making clearer instructions as for some clues we were short of time and therefore was not always clear. Could this not be played in summer? Bibliography - Internet : http://www.muswell-hill.com/ http://www.alexandrapalace.com/ Book : Walk around Muswell Hill, Ken Kay (1987) Hornsey Historical Society |
